United Left policy “Members First” victorious again

At today’s first meeting of the Unite Executive Council, Andy Green, the convenor at Tilbury docks was elected unopposed as the new Chair of the committee. Pat Davies, an Equality Rep at Arriva South London bus company and Michelle Smith from the CMA North East Yorkshire and Humberside were also elected unopposed as the two vice Chairs. All three are United Left members and stood on a manifesto of putting Members First.

Despite a number of unconstitutional attempts to defer the vote, the lay EC asserted itself and the vote represented a clear victory for the Left in the union.

The Members First United Left campaign focused on the need for an open and transparent union holding the administration to account. Today is a vindication of that platform.
