A “new start” for Unite as the union which will “take the fight to Farage,” protect jobs and raise pay
Simon Dubbins has announced his candidacy for the General Secretary election at Unite, one of the largest trade unions in the UK and Ireland. Simon is pledging to put Unite in the fight to stop Reform and the far-right while tackling the cost of living crisis.
- A new start for our union, ending tired internal divisions by reuniting our union.
- Take the fight to Farage. We must prevent a far-right Reform government.
- Only support politicians who support us.
- Open the books: Ending corruption and cronyism in our union.
- A fighting industrial strategy, to protect jobs, raise pay so workers do not pay for Trump’s wars.
Simon’s union life began supporting the picket lines of the Wapping dispute in 1986. As Unite’s International Director Simon currently supports Unite members in multinationals, which employ the majority of the union members from automotive to outsourced public services. Simon has led the union’s solidarity work with Palestine, facing internal attacks from incumbent Sharon Graham in recent years for doing so. (See full bio below.)
With the election timetable now agreed by the union’s Executive Council, Simon will now seek nomination for his candidacy from Unite branches across the union’s sectors, regions and nations.
Simon Dubbins said:
“Our union needs a new start. We must reunite our union and can get back to delivering for members.
“Our union has a unique responsibility and obligation to reunite working people and take the fight to Farage. Our political priority will be stopping a Reform government. That begins by defending workers in Reform-run councils and reuniting factory floors divided by Farage.
“We must turn the page on five years of failure and division which has led to devastating site closures and pay not keeping up with spiralling prices. It’s time for a new start for our union.”
