Solidarity visit to fellow workers

Tilbury Dockers visited striking workers on the picket line on Thursday 20 May, bringing with them a message of solidarity, as well as plentiful amounts of food and drink to keep the striking workers fuelled.

Tilbury Shop Steward Kris Knowles said “It was great to visit the picket line today, to bring a message of support from the dockers in the port and show solidarity with our fellow workers. The sight that greeted us when we arrived was amazing, everyone was in such high spirits and 100% behind the strike, it was wonderful to see such strength and unity”.

Fellow Docker and Executive Council member Andy Green who was also visiting commented “Our communities have relied upon the waste and refuse workers throughout the pandemic, these key workers deserve our praise, not to have their terms and conditions stripped from them. Our union’s Executive Council voted to increase strike pay through the pandemic in response to those unscrupulous employers who seek to take advantage of workers in during the Covid crisis”.
