Dozens of Unite members working on maintenance and repairs in Sanctuary Housing in Hackney have escalated strike action this month. Following three days of stoppages this past week, the workers were out again on 22 and 24 April and will be out on Friday 26th April.. They are demanding a substantial pay rise above the 4% “increase” (real pay cut) imposed last year and the recognition of Unite the union for collective bargaining over pay and conditions.

The action has hit services on the Gascoyne, Kingsmead and Morningside estates where Sanctuary manages hundreds of properties. While officially a non-profit, the housing association has assets of over £5.6 billion, a surplus of £101.3 million and a CEO on £400,000 a year.
