HS2 Demonstration – Euston, London

Friday 6 August 12 noon – 2pm

Meeting place: corner of Roberts Street and Hampstead Road NW1 3EL

I am sure you are aware that the construction phase of HS2 has now commenced and that a large proportion of the work for this project is within our Region. HS2 is a long term project that gives Unite and this region in particular a great opportunity to build membership and organisation within our Construction Sector.

It is normal practice on most construction sites across the country to allow Unite officers access to the site welfare facilities in order to allow them to speak with members and potential members during their break time.

Unfortunately, some of the contractors building HS2 have made clear that they will not allow meaningful/appropriate site access to Unite officers. The main protagonist is Skanska-Costain-Strabag Joint Venture (SCSJV).

SCSJV have stated in writing that they will not give meaningful site access to Unite officers and we are reliably informed that they are seeking support for this position from other HS2 contractors.

Due to Covid restriction we have been unable to take any real action since the summer of last year.  However with the lifting of these restrictions, Unite are once again able to mobilise.

Friday, 6 August has been set as the day the Unite Construction Sector will launch its HS2 campaign.

A major part of the launch of this campaign will focus on the demand for site access.

A demonstration is planned at the SCSJV Euston site in London between 12 midday and 14:00. The Sector is calling for mobilisation nationally and there are already pledges of support from a number of activists from major sites in other Regions.

The meeting place is; the corner of Roberts Street and Hampstead Road London NW1 3EL, people should start to gather from 11:45 am.  Please advise your Regional Officer if you are attending.
