NHS 70th Birthday

Spread the love

On the NHS’ 70th birthday we’re celebrating all we’ve done together for our NHS. Please watch and share this video to say you’ll be there for the NHS in the years to come:

When I woke up this morning and saw the NHS’ 70th birthday all over the news [1], it made me feel proud. I felt proud of our health-service, for saving lives, fixing broken bones and giving us hope in our most difficult moments. And I felt proud of 38 Degrees-ers like you, for fighting tooth and nail to protect our NHS.

I wanted to share some of my highlights with you:

Over half a million of us came together to stand against dangerous changes the government was making to our NHS back in 2011 – our first big NHS campaign [2]
We exposed secret government cuts to healthcare last year – forcing the government to come clean on their plans so that we could protect our hospitals and A&Es [3]
And the government’s recent announcement of a big NHS funding boost is in no small part thanks to the work we all put in [4]
Communities in places like Exeter, Chelmsford and Stockton have been able to get the treatment they need after we worked together to stop closures to A&Es and walk-in-centres [5]
Over 15,000 babies have been born at Lewisham Hospital since 2013. 38 Degrees-ers helped save that hospital from closure, chipping in to help local campaigners take the government to court [6]

If we want our children and grandchildren to be celebrating the NHS in another 70 years, it’s up to us to protect it. But today, let’s take a moment to celebrate our NHS, and all it has done for us.

Our NHS is precious. 70 years ago the NHS was founded on the idea that everyone deserves to be cared for, regardless of who they are or how much money they have. Here’s to another 70 years of our NHS caring for us when we need it most. And here’s to 38 Degrees members for being there to defend it.

Thank you for being part of something incredible,

David Babbs
